Spring Cleaning Tips

‘Tis the season—for cleaning. Now that the weather will soon be warm enough to open the windows, it’s the perfect moment to air out and scrub down your home. These tips and tricks will help you welcome warm weather, clean as a whistle.

Dust from top to bottom: Starting with the ceiling fans and sconces, use a rag to dust. Don’t forget door handles, window sills, tables, and lamps. Work your way down to the baseboards.

Treat your plants to a spa day: Wiping the leaves of your plants helps prevent the dust that encourages pest infestation. Choose the appropriate fertilizers and prepare to repot your green babies.

Scour the fridge: Remove everything and use vinegar, baking soda, club soda, and lemon to cleanse every nook and cranny. Use a damp washcloth to wipe the drips off of condiment bottles. Ditch your ice cubes and make a fresh batch. Use or lose anything that’s been lingering.

Reseal your grout: An ounce of prevention beats a pound of cure. Use a small brush to administer grout sealer on porous, vulnerable kitchen and bathroom tiles.

Attend to the upholstery: Beat upholstered couch cushions and pillows outside in order to expel a winter’s worth of dust. Vacuum the crevices of your couch.

Vacuum and shampoo your rugs: Bring in the professionals to deep-clean your carpets and Oriental rugs.

Mind the windows: Refresh your drapes by taking them down and shaking them out. Deep clean both sides of your window panes to bring them back to their crystal-clear glory after a long, hard winter.
